Veggie Patch Project: Planting

Hello everybody!!

I am really glad to tell you about the Veggie Patch Project and all what it involves. First of all I should say that in our school, all children from Nursery up to Lower 5th plant their veggies and become farmers for a while.

Yesterday our gardener, Mr. Gregorio, told my students how to prepare the ground to have it ready for planting seeds. My class knew how the radish seeds look like and they planted them with lots of enthusiasm. One by one my children were throwing the radish seeds hoping to watch them grow sooner.

In the coming days we will show you how we are taking care of our plants and how they are growing. We invite you to follow us in this new adventure and please do not stay away from the process because we promise that it will be great!!

See you soon!!

Farmer's Day!!

Who likes to eat corn?
Who likes to eat potatoes?
What about carrots?
Me! me! me! my students said.

Let me tell you that every June 24th we celebrate Farmer's day in Peru that was also named Indian's Day in the past. This is also a very important activity in the Andes, were they celebrate the Inti Raymi.

Here, you can find more information about it:

http://www.emufec.gob.pe/ingles/inti-raymi.html

During this week, my Deer and I were talking about a farmer's job, its importance and the benefits that we obtain from it. Considering all this information, we couldn't stay apart of this important date and its celebration. So, we put hands in action and prepared some things related with it. Look!!

Mary had a little lamb

This week my children began learning the shortest version of this popular nursery rhyme. It goes like this:

Mary had a little lamb
little lamb
little lamb.
Mary had a little lamb
its fleece was white as snow.

But, there is some information that you might like to know about it... For example:
- Do you know who wrote this rhyme? Why?
- Did Mary really exist?
- Did she really had a lamb?
- Did her lamb really followed her to school?

If you are an inquirer person and if you want to find out the answers I invite you to visit this link:

I also invite you to sing this song with your children following this karaoke video. Hope you have fun!!

Jack and Jill

Hello,

This is a very known nursery rhyme that we are working in class. Read the instructions below the lyrics, so you can play the same way we do in the classroom. Hope you can find a moment to play this with your children. Good luck!!

Jack and Jill went up the hill
To fetch a pail of water.

(Hold thumbs straight up,
alternating them upward)

Jack fell down and broke his crown,
(Wiggle one thumb and wrist downward)

And Jill came tumbling after.
(Wiggle other thumb and wrist downward)

And Bingo was his name-Oh!

There was a farmer had a dog,
And Bingo was his name-Oh.
