This has been such a wonderful year thanks to you! Our class had lots of joy, happiness, and love. I will never forget the very first moment in which we became friends.

Each one of you has something special to offer. Your arms are always ready to hold tight, your ears always listen to what they need to hear, and your smile can light the dark. Then everything around becomes beautiful. Please never stop being you!

I want to thank you from the bottom of my heart for giving me the pleasure of being your teacher this year and for letting me be part of your world. Thank you very much for your friendship and for always trying to find a way to solve a problem.

Hello everybody!!

Let me tell you something about Tacna, our last department in our Peruvian coast:

- Tacna, is a city in southern Peru and the regional capital of the Tacna Region. It is located on the border with Chile.

- Present-day Tacna Region was occupied by forces from neighboring Chile as a result of the War of the Pacific. Tacna was reincorporated into Peruvian sovereignty in 1929 and today it is known for being one of the most patriotic areas in the country.

- Tacna was initially called San Pedro de Tacna. It has gained a reputation for patriotism, with many monuments and streets named after heroes of Peru's struggle for independence (1821-1824) and the War of the Pacific (1879-1883).

- Residents of Tacna are known in Spanish as "tacneños".

- Many monuments are located in this city, including "The Arch of the Alto de la Alianza", which shows the significance of this town.

Moquegua

Hello everybody!!
This is almost the last place of our peruvian coast that we are going to present. It's Moquegua's turn and it comes in charge of Daniela Morales Macedo Flores. Let's see what she has to tell about Moquegua!

- The Plaza de Armas, is a very beautiful Main Square which is the center of the city. It was designed by French Architect Gustave Eiffel.

- Moquegua's Cathedral and "Cerro Baúl" are some of the city attractions.

- High quality alfalfa as well as fruits, especially grapes, are produced here, due to a good climate and a rich soil.

- The Ubinas Volcano, Peru's most active volcano, is located nearby.

Arequipa

Hello everybody!!

Now we are going to learn more about Arequipa. In this opportunity we have Marcelo López and Andrea Martínez in charge of the information. Let's see what we learn from them!

- Arequipa is also called "the city where the volcanoes rest" because it's surrounded by three impressive volcanoes: Misti, Chachani, and PichuPichu.

- The most important and known of them is The Misti.

- There are numerous points of interest in the Arequipa region. For example: The Colca Canyon, that is twice as deep as the Grand Canyon.

- Another important touristic places are: Santa Catalina Monastery and Yanahuara.

- Something also important in Arequipa is food, like "rocoto relleno".

Hello everybody!!

We are getting closer to the end of our coast. This time, we have Luz María Alcalá and Nicolás Vega, who explained us about the marvellous city of Ica. Here some important information:

- One of the most popular places to visit in Ica is La Huacachina. The famous desert oasis is located 5km from Ica. It is a small lake with medicinal water, lying in the middle of a spectacular sand desert.

- "Frijol colado" is one of the desserts that you can find in Ica.

- Pisco is the most important port in Ica. Pisco was home of an ancient pre-Hispanic culture, Paracas, who are known for their exquisite textiles.

- The Nazca Lines, which are geoglyphs and geometric line clearings in the Atacama desert, in the district of Nazca. From the air, the Nazca Lines show humans, animals, plants, lines and geometric shapes.

Hello everybody!! My name is Drazen and I became a reporter for one day. Let me tell you what I learned in my city tour around Lima:

- Lima is the capital and largest city of Peru.
- Lima is known as "The city of kings".
- It has beautiful balconies that were a major feature of Lima's architecture during the colonial period.
- Some touristic places to visit are: Monastery of San Francisco, the Plaza Mayor, the Cathedral, the Government Palace, the Metropolitan Municipality of Lima, and the Covenant of Santo Domingo.

Lima has lots of beautiful things to offer and lots of beautiful places to visit! Come to Lima and see it with your own eyes!

Ancash

Hello everybody!!
It's Ancash turn that comes with our friend Temístocles. Now we are near Lima, just a few kilometers away...
Temístocles presented interesting information about this city.

He explained the class about the most important snows and its names, like: Pastoruri, Alpamayo, and Huascarán.

Some of the most important places in Ancash are: Huaraz, Caraz, and Yungay (also known as the lost city). Ancash also has beautiful lakes like: LLanganuco and Querococha.

In this picture Temístocles is showing a "lanzón monolítico" replica, that is a 5 meters figure that seems to represent a swarf with a head three times bigger than his body. It also shows big teeth like puma's and his feet seem like claws.

La Libertad

Hello everybody!!
Our friend Rodrigo was in charge of La Libertad and he told us many interesting things about this place and its capital: Trujillo. He explained each one of the pictures with enthusiasm and share his knowledge with the class.

As well as the other cities of Peru, La Libertad has an important cultural richness that can be aprreciated in different ways: Huanchaco beach that has "caballitos de totora (Totora seahorses)", Chan Chan ruines, Plaza de armas de Trujillo, and "arroz con pato" that is a delicious typical dish with duck and rice.

Lambayeque

Hello everybody!!

To continue with our presentations of our amazing Peru, we have Makarena Monge and Enzo Morales talking about Lambayeque.

Makarena told us that Lambayeque is located in the north part of the coast. She told us that Chiclayo is the capital city and also mentioned some beautiful places you can find there as well as some delicious food like "frijoles con seco de cabrito" that you can eat while staying there.

On the other side, Enzo mentioned some touristic places in Lambayeque like Plaza de Armas, The Cathedral, Sipan Museum, The cross of Motupe, and Ferreñafe. He also showed us some pictures of "huacos" from Moche's culture.

To give you some extra information, I would like you to know that:

- The name Lambayeque originates from "Llampayec", an idol that was worshipped in northern Peru.
- Lambayeque culture is also known as "Sican" that as well as "Mochica" are Pre-Colombian cultures.
- The tomb of "El Señor de Sipán" (Lord of Sipán), excavated by Walter Alva, is considered to be one of the most important archaeological discoveries in the last thirty years, because the main tomb was found intact and undisturbed by thieves.

Teacher's day!!

Hello everybody!!

Here in Peru we celebrate teacher's day every July 6th and this year was not the exception. My children were preparing a special surprise for me with Miss Jessi, who is my lovely assistant.

Everything, and I really mean everything, was prepared with care, love, and detail.

I had to wait outside of the classroom for the sign to get in. I was really anxious, walking along the path wondering and expecting the best of them, as always.

I had just to put one foot inside the classroom to have all my children huging and kissing me :) It was such a beautiful day!!

Piura

Hello everybody!!

Let´s continue learning about Peru and its departments. We have started with Tumbes and now it's Piura's turn.

We are following the order from north to south, that means that we will go from Tumbes to Tacna in order to cover all the coast.

In this opportunity we have Sofía Zamora and Thiago Oliver as our presenters. Let's see!!

Sofía started talking about Piura's ubication in the north of the coast. She told us that the weather in Piura is always sunny and hot. She also brought us some delicious "chifles" (or plantain chips)from Piura and a "poto" to explain us that people from Piura drink "chicha de jora" served in a pot like that. Catacaos is the place where potos are made and Chulucanas the place where pottery like "gorditos" are famous, she said.

On the other side, we have Thiago, who enphasized his presentation talking about the most known beaches in Piura. There is Máncora, Órganos, and Colán. He also showed us some pictures of The "Plaza de Armas de Piura" and its cathedral. Something that was surprising for our students is that Piura that has beaches, also has deserts like Sechura.

Tumbes

Hello everybody!!

As I told you before, my children have been presenting some information about touristic places from the coast of Peru.

You will have the opportunity to know more about each one of our departments and their richness,culture, and magic.

First, let´s start with Tumbes! Fernanda Rojas and Oscar Cumpa were in charge of this presentation. Enjoy!!

Oscar choose Tumbes because his family and he spend summer time there. He showed us some pictures of Tumbes' beaches like: Puerto Pizarro, Mancora, Zorritos, and Punta Sal that are the most known.

Fernanda also mentioned more touristic places to visit in Tumbes like: The Plaza de Armas and The mangrove swamps. She also told us about "ceviche de conchas negras" that is one of the seafood dishes that Tumbes offers you.

Proud of being Peruvians

Hello everybody!!

As a peruvian I have a lot to tell you about my country. But it's too much to explain only in one post, so what about doing it bit by bit?

Pre-Kinder children have learned about Peru and its three main regions: coast, highlands, and jungle.

We usually use yellow to colour the coast because of its desserts, brown for the highlands because of its mountains, and green for the jungle because of its trees and plants.

During this weeks Pre-Kinder children will continue learning about Peru, but focusing on the coast. In our case, we will be talking about touristic places of the coast.

Field Trip to the zoo

Hello everybody!!

Last week Pre-Kinder children went on a field trip to the zoo. "Parque Zoológico de Huachipa" is the place we have chosen to go and where we found different kind of animals including the ones that belong to the sea.

There was an aquarium that catched our students attention and interest but there was an special interest in lions and tigers, specially from boys.

On the other hand, our girls were captured by the charm and dance of penguins that were trying to catch a dragonfly and by the tallness of the giraffe, too.

We all had a very special day sharing with the other Pre-Kinder classes, having fun, and the most important of all: learning. It was a very nice day!

"The lion and the mouse"

Hello everybody!!

This week my children listened to the story: "The lion and the mouse". Well, they didn't just listened but watched it! How? I took them to one of our smartboard's classroom and they enjoyed our story time in a different way.

Before watching the video my students answered some questions related to the story and when we got back to our classroom they made a mini-book with the images of the story. Of course, they had to sequence the pictures first and then we stapled them.

Today they took home the mini-book. They were really happy because they are able to share and retell this story to their parents.

Hello everybody!!

LOVE... a great word right? especially when it comes from one of our students...

Last week I was playing with my children during the recess time when Jessi, my assistant, listened to one of the boys asking one of the girls to marry him. Yes!! So she called me and together we asked him what was going on... He told us that when he grow up he will marry her. Ohhh at least he is going to wait!! I said to myself.

But, something that called our attention was that this boy told us a week before that he was going to marry another girl! So, we asked him: "What happened with the other girl? Aren´t you going to marry her when you grow up?" then he became very serious to answer our question and he said whispering: "Well, the other girl broke my heart"

Can you imagine? It is really amazing to know that children can be so sincere expressing their feelings and thoughts and it is more amazing to realize that love can be expressed and felt in so many different ways... but, let me tell you that never in a purest one.

Interview with Escuela Virtual Backus

Hello everybody!!

This year in January, I received an e-mail from Escuela Virtual Backus asking me for an interview.

I was surprised and so happy to know that this interview was proposed because of the work I have been doing with my children in Pre-Kinder last year. The journalist told me that she was amazed with all our process using TICs in a kindergarten classroom and of course, at our school.

So, the day finally came and I had the interview. It was posted on their Edutics blog and now I want to share with you the video in which I talk about our work at school, the wonder of having smartboards in some of our classrooms, and the marvellous things that technology offers nowadays.

Sequences

Hello everybody,

Last week my students and I had a lot of fun establishing sequences and following patterns. As always, we started first with our bodies.

They followed the order: one boy and one girl first, then we continue thinking and creating new patterns to follow. For example: two boys and one girl, two girls and one boy, or three boys and one girl.

Each time my students were reaching new goals as the task was getting harder and harder.

When we finished working with our bodies, we started working with concrete material. We used some things we have in the classroom and started establishing sequences and following patterns.

As you can see in the pictures, my students worked in groups. At the beginning it was kind of difficult for them to work together at the same time, but after talking they got to an agreement and made group decisions. They organized their work and did a great job.

After working in groups, there was a new challenge... a sequence of four colours in the patio!! Let me tell you that I was really surprised when I saw them organizing the material in the order I established: red, blue, yellow, and green.

I am really proud of my students!! They learnt how to work in groups respecting others and they liked it :)

Working with shapes!

Hello everybody!

My class is working with shapes. My children have already worked with circles and squares but it was the turn for the triangle and this is what we did:

It is important for us to let children explore and find answers by themselves. So, that's what we did! after checking the previous knowledge and the shapes we have learnt, I made a triangle on the floor using masking tape.

First I asked them: "Do you know what shape is this?" "It's a triangle", they said. OK! but... How do we know it's a triangle? "Miss Tatiana, look! we only need three of us to get one". "It's a triangle because it has only three sides", they said. Can you see that?

Knowing that a triangle has three sides then came the next step. How can we draw a triangle? Is there a correct way to do that? Let's see...

You start on the left side and GO UP.

Then, you GO DOWN.

Finally, you CLOSE the triangle.

It was very funny!! All my students were really happy to participate in groups of three and then one by one to get the same result: a triangle.

At the end of the class, my students draw a triangle on a piece of card board using pencils. They followed the correct order to make one: starting on the left, going up, then down, and finally closing the triangle. When they finished doing that, they put yellow play dough on their drawings.

Last week I was standing near my desk checking journals and writing notes, when suddenly appeared one of my little girls so excited shouting: "Miss Tatiana, Miss Tatiana I have something to tell you".

Then, I turned around and look at her waiting for her special news. "I love you Miss Tatiana" she said, and opened her arms to hugh me. Of course I opened mine as fast as I could!! "I love you, too" I said and hughed her with all the emotions that I was feeling in that moment.

But this is not all... She said: "Miss, you don´t understand... I love you far beyond the aliens' planet" Do you understand now? It was one of the most important and wonderful moments I have ever lived as a teacher.

I always said to myself that children are the perfect thermometers beause they are always telling you in any way, how things are going on in the classroom.

I wanted to share this with you because it is really amazing for me to know that children feel your love. Remember that if there is a good rapport between you and your students I can truly assure you that everything is going to be perfect!!

Hello everybody!!

As I told you before, my students are enjoying their vacations and having a good time with their families. While they are waiting to come back to school, we, their teachers, are planning everything to get ready and receive them on March.

During February all teachers here at St. George School are having a training period in which some experts come to talk about interesting and important topics with us. One of those topics was "Differentiated Education" and that's what I want to share with you this time because I consider it a very important point to reflect about.

I found this information online that specifies really well what all this is about: Teachers have a variety of instructional strategies they can address diverse student learning needs. Differentiated instruction places students at the center of teaching and learning and student needs drive instructional planning. It is a way to enhance learning for all students by engaging them in activities that respond to particular learning needs, strengths, and preferences.

Video conference / Story time

Hello everybody!!

For those who were following the process of our video conferences with USA, here you have the note of our last conversation with our friends from Jacksonville, Florida.

This time each group prepared a story and we shared a marvellous story time. Our dear friends of Kindergarten told us the story: "Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What do you see?" with Mrs. Tolisano help and we told the story: "Rico, Feo".

It was really funny and special to have shared these wonderful conferences with you friends! Thank you very much for letting us develop the project between our classes and the most important thing of all, for have became our trully friends. Love you all!

It is very important for all of us to know that technology brings us the opportunity of doing whatever we want to, without distances and languages limits. Start using technology as the marvellous tool it is. Go!!

Video Conference / Sing along time

Hello everybody!!

As you know, two weeks ago we had our first video conference with our Kinder friends from San Jose Episcopal School Jacksonville-Florida. That was a good opportunity to play a game and to introduce ourselves for the first time.

On this second video conference, we shared a sing along time together. The song we sang was "One hand, two hands" and we did it in both English and Spanish because our friends are learning Spanish as well as we are learning English.

While we were chatting and singing together, my children and I decided to teach our friends a new song, and that's what we did! The song we choose was "La vaca Lola" that is a short and funny one.

Then, we started asking each other how do animals say in each country and he had some funny differences like in dogs for example: dogs in USA say "woof woof" and in Peru they say "guau guau".

We had a great time learning together! We are waiting for the third one!

Video Conference with U.S.A.

Hello everydody!!

Do you remember one of my last posts about having new friends? Well, this is a good opportunity to keep on talking about them. After that great morning of meeting and sharing breakfast with Silvia and Terry, we continued keeping in touch via skype.

We had talked about doing some projects together with our classes. So, we decided to match her Kindergarten students from USA with our Pre-K classes (Ponies and Deer)from Peru in a video conference. Miss Marijú was also excited and ready to collaborate with us, too.

Last Tuesday was the big day for our first video conference. This time we played a game called “Arbolito del Peru” that Mrs. Gallo (their Spanish teacher) had taught them. It is a counting out type of game, where students introduce themselves with their names. SJEDS students did it in Spanish and of course, we did it in English.

We had a great time together :)
It is amazing to now that nowadays technology let us develop this kind of projects, even with the little ones! I am really proud to say that this is the first time that children from Pre-Kinder participate in a video conference at our school.

We are planning two more video conferences with our new friends in USA over the next two weeks to sing songs and read a bilingual story together. Stay alert and see you soon with more news!

New friends!

Hello everybody!
I want to share with you something really special for me...
Last Sunday I met two teachers from United Sates. Their names are Silvia and Terry, they came from San Jose Episcopal Day School, Jacksonville Florida.

As you can see in the picture, they are holding a teddy bear. His name is Jose and he travels with them around the world. This year they had the opportunity to come to Peru to visit Cuzco and Puno. Jose helps these teachers to explain their kids how people live in other countries through pictures and videos they post in their blog. Silvia, Terry, and Jose didn´t come alone. They came with Jose´s brother, another teddy bear that they gave to me. I promised them to take care of this new friend and to introduce him to my students on Tuesday. And that's what I did!! Today my students met Jose´s brother and named him Jorge.

So, last Sunday morning we had breakfast together and we could enjoy some delicious peruvian food like tacu-tacu, chicharrón, relleno, and tamal. Even Jose and Jorge were excited to try these new peruvian flavors. When we finished the breakfast, we went to have a walk around Barranco.

But time didn't let us stay more longer together and it was time to say good bye... I left them in the hotel and thanked for such a great morning, for letting me knowing them, and for giving me the chance of working some projects together in the future. Thank you Silvia and Terry and remember that you are always welcome here! Finally we asked the taxi driver who was waiting for them to take us a picture, and here it is! Five new friends!

An Inquiry into Veggie Patch: Transplanting

Hello!

As you know, my children have been working on an Inquiry into Veggie Patch. They had learned different and interesting things related with plants while they were observing and exploring nature.

One of the activities we did was to put some seeds inside a glass with cotton. My children brought different kind of seeds and chose the ones they liked. They watered them and put them outside in the garden because my children know plants need sunlight, air and water to live.

In that way our seeds became plants and after four weeks our plants were too big to stay in the glass, so we decided to transplant them to flower pots with soil. My children did it with lots of enthusiasm while reciting the poem "Maytime Magic" and singing the song "Plant some seeds" that they learned before.

Becoming brothers / sisters

Hello!!

My children are growing really fast! Some of them had recently become brothers and sisters for the first time, some others are still waiting, and others are wishing that.

Thinking about them and the importance of becoming a brother or sister is how I found this book that fits perfectly with how they feel sometimes.

I hope that after reading this book they understand that even if it's not fair sometimes, there will always be someone on the other side. Enjoy!!

A family week

Last week here in Peru, we were celebrating the family's day. Eventhough this day is not so popular, I don´t want to stay apart of telling you about it.

Wherever we go we always find different kind of families, but I learned that all of them are the same in one thing: LOVE. For all that love we feel for our families I invite you to go home, look at them, and thank God for that wonderful pride of being part of it.

Field Trip to "El Arriero" 2

Hello everybody!

As I promise you before, I am going to tell you more about our last adventure to "El Arriero" and the activities my children enjoyed there.

There were some games they liked a lot! one of them consisted in catching a hen that afraid was running with no direction. Can you imagine all my students running towards her? It was really funny! lots of laughs and screams mixed while running. The winner of this game was: Sandra Montero Arias, who received a plant as a prize.

The other game I want to share with you consisted in finding a carrot that was hidden in the straw. It was so easy for our winner: Bruno Díaz Ruíz, who won a plant, too.

Field Trip to "El Arriero"

Hello everybody!!

According to our activity programme my students and I went to our second field trip. This time we chose the interactive farm "El Arriero" because we have been working with animals and this farm has also a Veggie Patch that aloud us to cover this topic, too.

All my students were really happy to see the farm animals. They touched them, feed them, and even played with them! Here you have some pictures about this wondeful day we spent together.

An Inquiry into: Veggie Patch

Now they are involved in the process of exploring and investigating in order to acquire more information related with plants. We will also start working with some experiments that you will find attached in this blog.

Crosscurricular Project

Hello everybody,

During the last two weeks everybody here at school was involved in our cross curricular project "Scientific Minds in Action". Every class was developing a theme related with the topic of our project.

Our class had the mission of recycling cardboard and my students learned more about the importance of recycling and giving new uses and functions to things that are not useful anymore.

So, that´s what we did!! all my students brought cardboard (in every kind of presentation)and then we started the process of creation. I have to admit that my class is very creative, that's why my students didn't doubt in showing all their art and expressing all their ideas.

In this picture you can see some of the things that we made recycling cardboard. My children were really happy showing and explaining others how they did the robot and the house. Everything was prepaired and painted by them.

I am going to show you more details about this wonderful project in the coming posts. See you!!

We know there are some animals that are bigger than others, some that we haven't listened about before, and some that are more popular among us.

During these last days my children and I have been learning about ocean animals and words like ocean, fish, crab, octopus, jellyfish, seahorse, starfish, shark, dolphin, and seal are more familiar for us now.

Field Trip to "Parque de la Amistad"

During the year each grade goes on a Study Visit or Field Trip. This week Nursery and Pre-Kinder classes went together to the "Parque de la Amistad". It was a great opportunity to share with other friends and have a good time learning together.

During our visit, my students learned about how everything is surrounded by nature and why is it important to take care of it. They also found some recycling baskets in which they had the opportunity to select garbage and classify it according to the color of the basket.

Storytelling in Spanish

Hello everybody!!

It's a pleasure for me to tell you that my children are working on a storytelling classroom project in Spanish named: "Cuéntame un cuento".

How does it work?
Every week we make a raffle to know who is going to be our new storyteller. In this case, we choose two names and those students have to select a story from our library and take it home where their parents read it to them. On the next day, they have to bring the story back to school and tell it with their own words to all their classmates.

Our first week storytellers were Valeria Neira and Pablo Meza. Good job Deer!

Veggie Patch Project: Bigger

Look, our radishes are bigger!! said my children when we went to visit our Veggie Patch last monday.

It seems that nature have done its job very well during our vacations and now we have our radishes almost ready to harvest. My children can't wait much longer to pull and pull like in the story to get their veggies, but they know we still have to wait a quite longer.

Everyday they ask me: "Miss Tatiana, How would our radishes be today? Are they bigger than yesterday? Can we harvest them today?" and then I say: "Be patient my Deer... just a little bit longer..."

So, for everyone that is also waiting with us to see the results... just a little bit of your patience please... See you!!

Independence of Peru

This July 28th our country celebrates one more year of being independent. My children learned about Don Jose de San Martin's dream and decided to publish it in our class mural. San Martin's dream tells us how he designed the first peruvian flag and why did he choose red and white to be the main colors of it.

Many years ago San Martin was thinking about having a peruvian flag to identify our country, but he couldn't decide how would it be... One day, he was resting under a palm tree in Paracas when suddenly he fell asleep. Then, he started to dream and in his dream he saw some beautiful birds that had their body white and their wings red flying up in the sky.

When he woke up he saw those birds flying up in the sky, just like in his dream!! Those birds were flamingoes that never ever imagine that their color will distinguish an entire nation. That day, Don Jose de San Martin designed the first peruvian flag, that later will suffer some changes until the one we have now.

After some problems and fighting some wars, Don Jose de San Martin proclaimed the independence of Peru in Lima on July 28, 1821 after he declared it in November 1820 from a Huaura's balcony.

We are happy of being Peruvians and we celebrate with all our hearts being independent and free. Come and join us with this celebration and tell everybody: ¡Viva el Perú!

Veggie Patch Project: Growing

Hello everybody!

A couple of weeks ago we started our Veggie Patch project and my class planted radish seeds. As I promised before, I am going to keep you updated with the growing process of our radishes.

First of all, you should know that radishes are tubers and that means that they will grow under the ground. We have different kinds of tubers and maybe potatoes are the most known. I was explaining this to my children because they were expecting to see something more than only leaves when we went to see our Veggie Patch.

This is the way our radishes look now and we will continue taking care of them in the coming days.
More water and sunlight, more love and care, and more patience to see the results of this magic adventure of learning about radishes and about a farmer's work. See you!!

Happy Teacher's Day!!

This morning couldn´t start in a better way than with lots of kisses and hughs!! My children had been prepairing a lot of surprises for me to celebrate Teacher's Day together. All of them were really excited about this day and with Miss Nathy's help everything went just perfect!!

I have to tell you that I am really proud of my children and amazed to notice that they created the poem they had recited for me today!! I can only find one word to describe it: "beautiful" just like that...

After I listened to the poem, they gave me a beautiful card, flowers and a magic box full of chocolates. They also made a video expressing thoughts to me. But the most important of all was that everything was made with love.

Finally, I want thank Nathy and all my children for such a great day. I love you with all my heart!! I also want to extend my greetings to every teacher in the world, wishing you the best of all: the love of your students... Happy Teacher´s Day!!

Solidarity Week

As you remember, last year in August our country suffered a terrible earthquake and people from Chincha, Pisco, and Ica were the most affected. I think that nobody can forget that terrible day when many families were destroyed and we remember the pain that was in our people's eyes.

Many schools felt down and are completely destroyed now. From that day on many children are studying in parks and wherever they can. Our school is really concerned about this situation and decided to put hands in action and started collecting founds to help one of those schools that is in Sunampe-Chincha.

That is the main reason why last week we had the "Solidarity week". Students had the opportunity to collaborate with this important mission participating in three days full of fun that were organized like this:

First day: Jeans day
Second day: Extravagant day
Third day: Hat day

My children and I couldn´t stay away of collaborating and we participated in all those activities. The funniest day for us was the "Hat day" in which we saw lots of different amazing hats around the school. We are really happy to tell you that we collected S/. 7,686.10 nuevos soles in this solidarity campaign.

Children in Sunampe-Chincha will have a new school thanks to all the parents and students that gave their support and help. God bless you all!!

Veggie Patch Project: Planting

Hello everybody!!

I am really glad to tell you about the Veggie Patch Project and all what it involves. First of all I should say that in our school, all children from Nursery up to Lower 5th plant their veggies and become farmers for a while.

Yesterday our gardener, Mr. Gregorio, told my students how to prepare the ground to have it ready for planting seeds. My class knew how the radish seeds look like and they planted them with lots of enthusiasm.One by one my children were throwing the radish seeds hoping to watch them grow sooner.

In the coming days we will show you how we are taking care of our plants and how they are growing. We invite you to follow us in this new adventure and please do not stay away from the process because we promise that it will be great!!

Farmer's Day!!

Let me tell you that every June 24th we celebrate Farmer's day in Peru that was also named Indian's Day in the past. This is also a very important activity in the Andes, were they celebrate the Inti Raymi.

During this week, my Deer and I were talking about a farmer's job, its importance and the benefits that we obtain from it. Our school celebrated Virgin Mary's day with a morning full of love and songs for her. Our Deer were really happy to be part of this celebration and they were praying the Hail Mary with all the faith children have.

When Virgin Mary got to the centre of the patio all Kindergarten children got together inside a big circle holding their colorful balloons waiting to the final count that will tell them that it was time to let them go.

Happy Mother's Day!!

This last friday our little children celebrated Mother's Day with a special presentation prepared for mommies. Everyone starting with the more little from Nursery and ending with the biggest from Kinder showed all their art and love to their moms.

In our case, both Pre-Kinder classes worked together and presented the song: "El caracol" with Miss Bárbara and the poem: "My mother is mine" that is actually one of the stories we have been reading in class.

This time we adapted the story and used it as a poem because of its content and structure. Here, our Deer want to say this for their moms, hoping they had a very Happy Mother's Day!!

This week my children are learning the rhyme: "One, two, buckle my shoe". Little by little they are feeling more comfortable with the use of English and rhymes help a lot to make them learn having fun.

Everyday we recite this rhyme with lots of enthusiasm and we hope you will feel the same way while you recite it. Join us, here it is!

"Tortilla", a new friend!!

On wednesday we received a new friend at school. Yes!! it's a turtle!! Miss Carla(Kinder Kangaroos) was the person who brought the turtle to school and I want to thank her because we are really happy to have this new friend in our group.

His real name is "Tortilla" but each child had give him the name they wanted for him. Eventhough they know that it is a male turtle, some of our children insisted on calling him "Karin".

Tortilla's new habitat is our Pre-Kinder garden and now he is enjoying the pleasure of being finally sorrounded by nature. The first day he was so excited that almost run along all the garden. It was amazing to see the turtle enjoying the warm sunlight and the fresh air that comes from leaves.

It is also important to mention that this experience will help our children to learn about the responsability of having a pet and how to take care of it. Now they know for example, that "Tortilla" likes to eat lettuce and tomatoes.

I am sure that this is the beginning of a true friendship!!

Every year we receive our students with lots of enthusiasm and love, but we also like to welcome them sharing a funny moment with a special show or presentation.

This time we had the opportunity to meet "Arena y Esteras" that is a Cultural Association from Villa El Salvador. They presented us all their art through malabarism, folk dance, folk music, and mime.

Our students were fascinated with all those artistic expressions and really happy to have them at school. They also learned about the Pachacamac legend in which they told us how the Pachacamac isles were formed. This was really a magic day!!

Summer School 2008

As every year, our students come to our school in summer. "Learning and having fun" is the name that describes perfectly what all the acivities of our summer school are made for. This summer we had the opportunity to work with 110 students in different activities designed for the little and the big ones and to mention some of them, we had: TKD, art and craft,minibasket, drama, recreative swimming pool, storytelling, among others.
It is also important to mention that our new students had the chance to met teachers, to make new friends, and to get addapted to the schoolar system, too.
Here I want to show you some pictures of those moments we enjoyed in that beautiful and magic time of summer. Enjoy!!

Christmas Time!!

My deer were always listening the importance of sharing with others... This year they have learned to share their toys, games, materials and even their own friends!! But, this time we are doing something special. We all know that it's Christmas time and we decided to donate some presents to some poor children who live in the "Asentamiento Humano Medina Paredes" of Miraflores. To make this more special for our children and to make them internalize the meaning of sharing in a concrete way, I asked them to help me wrap all the presents we have bought and so they gladly did!!

I explained to my deer that they will make 14 children feel more happy in Christmas night because they are sharing with them and that the most important part of all, is that they are doing it with love!! I think that opportunities like this, make us reflect about all the good things we have in our lives and make us thank God for all his blessings!! We wish you all a Very Merry Christmas!! JO JO JO!!

My beautiful Deer,

It seems like yesterday when you came for the very first time to my class... I can remember your beautiful eyes looking at me, trying to express what you couldn't say with words.

While time was passing by, we became a very strong group that enjoy playing and having fun in class. We have a special quote: "One for all and all for one" and that's exactly the way I'm going to keep you in mind. I want you to remember all the moments we have spent together and all the funny situations in which we have been involved. Our imagination had always carried us through places that we haven't imagined before and it also let us solve some impossible missions and adventures. Please, never ever stop dreaming!!

It's been a pleasure for me to be your teacher. I want to thank you all for letting me be part of your marvellous world, for your kindness, friendship, and love. I will never forget you!!

During these last two years at school I've had Nathy as my assistant and I must say that, eventhough all the assistants are great, mine is the best!!

It is very important for a kindergarten teacher to have a good assistant in class but, it is more important to have a good relationship with her. I think that, in the same way we need a good rapport with our students, we also need to feel comfortable and to know the person we are working with. Luckily for me, working with Nathy is a pleasure... She is the kind of person that you would like to add to your friend's list.

Vegetables and fruits

These last weeks we have been learning about vegetables and fruits. Some of them were already known like carrot, potato, apple or banana; but our Deer have increased their vocabulary with words like cabbage, peas, custard apple and strawberries.We always like to play with chants and rhymes and this time wasn't the exception. We had learned the Navajo chant "Tortillas, tortillas" before and we had a great time playing with it changing the word tortillas for the name of a vegetable or fruit.

Another activity related with the topic was a cooking day! We decided to prepare a vegetable soup and so we did. Everyone brought a vegetable from home and we went to the kitchen to prepare our delicious vegetable soup. Everybody made a great job peeling, cutting and washing the vegetables. Then, they followed all the steps and took turns to help me put the vegetables in the pot with water.

It took about 20 minutes to have our soup ready and our Deer didn't refuse to eat it. Almost all of them asked for more!! At the end of the day we were really happy because our recipe was a success. Hmmmm...

"The Farmer and the beet"

Following our school's methodology based in language acquisition, and having storytelling as one powerful tool, we always read and listen to stories in class. In this opportunity, I want to show you how we worked with the story: "The Farmer and the beet".

After listening to the story, my students answered comprehension questions, following some language patterns that we have practiced in class like short answers: Is this a ....? Yes, it is / No, it isn't and also answering questions like: What is this? It's a .... Then, we proceeded to dramatize the story.

But to start dramatizing it, we need volunteers! Who wants to be the farmer? Who wants to be the horse? Who wants to be the cow? Who wants to be the dog? Who wants to be the cat? Who wants to be the mouse? I asked. My deer never ever rejected a chance like that.

Now that we have all the characters we can start dramatizing the story!They pulled and pulled... but the beet did not come up! So, the mouse pulled on the cat, the cat pulled on the dog, the dog pulled on the cow, the cow pulled on the horse, the horse pulled on the farmer, the farmer pulled on the beet, and the beet finally came up!
When we finished dramatizing the story, we learned the song: "The farmer and the beet" and we sang and dramatized it, too.
We really learn having fun in class and storytelling sessions allow our students to acquire the language by following patterns and to increase their vocabulary by using it in context. See you in another story!!

Maytime Magic Books

After finishing working with the growing process of plants, the seeds, and learning the poem "Maytime Magic" my students elaborated their own books.

In this opportunity, the books were created as an extension of the lesson using the same pictures of the poem's cards. They were really excited with the idea of becoming editors and taking their books home, so they can teach the poem to their families and friends.

At the end of school's day, they went home carrying their books and all the satisfaction of having demostrated how good they are.

Planting!!

After learning the poem "Maytime Magic" and putting our seeds to grow in a cup with cotton, we decided to transplant our beautiful plants to flowerpots. All my students were so excited with the idea of following all the steps we learned to plant:
1. Make a hole in the earth.
2. Put the plant in the hole.
3. Make a little pat to the earth.
4. Water the plant.

Finally, that wonderful day came and all my Deer showed their enthusiasm in the activity. They put their hands in action and started the process of planting while they were reciting the poem they had learned before. They were really happy and you can confirm that by looking at these pictures...

"Maytime Magic"

During these last weeks, my class have been learning the poem: "Maytime Magic" as part of our 6th TLLC theme. This poem describes very clearly the germination process of a plant, starting with the seed. Our children have in class a big poster with the poem and its set of cards displayed on the board. Each student also has the same set of cards in order to practice sequencing and reciting each part of it individually as well as the whole poem.

Teacher´s Day!!

"The best gift that a teacher can receive is love and respect from her/his students". This year my Deer had lots of beautiful details full of love to celebrate this day with me. I am lucky to say that kisses and hugs are gifts that I receive every day... and we couldn't start our day better!! We really spent a great morning together. Suddenly, they started to give each other some suspicious looks and making signs to Miss Nathy, who was their accomplice, because they wanted to know if it was 12:00 p.m. to give me their biggest surprise.
Finally, it was time for their presentation and they got into the stage and started reciting a beautiful poem: "Feliz día señorita" and then, they danced the song: "Five Senses HI 5". Both of them were excellent as everything they do.
At the end of the day they couldn't finish in a better way than saying: "Happy Teacher's Day". Thanks a lot to all of you for your love, I love you!!

School's 75th Anniversary

On April 23rd, our School celebrated its 75th Anniversary with the happiness and enthusiasm of our little children who didn't hesitate at all in preparing great surprises for such a wonderful day.
Our Deer decided to tell Saint George's Legend in a very different and special way. We rehearsed for days to present this story in Spanish (because it was the beggining of the year) and their performance delighted children and adults. Let's enjoy some of the pictures and a video of that big day.
