An Inquiry into Veggie Patch: Transplanting

Hello!

As you know, my children have been working on an Inquiry into Veggie Patch. They had learned different and interesting things related with plants while they were observing and exploring nature.

One of the activities we did was to put some seeds inside a glass with cotton. My children brought different kind of seeds and chose the ones they liked. They watered them and put them outside in the garden because my children know plants need sunlight, air and water to live.

In that way our seeds became plants and after four weeks our plants were too big to stay in the glass, so we decided to transplant them to flower pots with soil. My children did it with lots of enthusiasm while reciting the poem "Maytime Magic" and singing the song "Plant some seeds" that they learned before.

That's what I want to show you in this slide. Hope you enjoy it!

An Inquiry into: Veggie Patch

Hello everybody!!
Now it's time to tell you that my students are working with our inquiry unit of Veggie Patch. As you can see in the picture, they learned the names of the parts of the plants and copied them from the board.

Now they are involved in the process of exploring and investigating in order to acquire more information related with plants. We will also start working with some experiments that you will find attached in this blog.

Veggie Patch Project: Bigger

Look, our radishes are bigger!! said my children when we went to visit our Veggie Patch last monday.

It seems that nature have done its job very well during our vacations and now we have our radishes almost ready to harvest. My children can't wait much longer to pull and pull like in the story to get their veggies, but they know we still have to wait a quite longer.

Everyday they ask me: "Miss Tatiana, How would our radishes be today? Are they bigger than yesterday? Can we harvest them today?" and then I say: "Be patient my Deer... just a little bit longer..."

So, for everyone that is also waiting with us to see the results... just a little bit of your patience please... See you!!

Veggie Patch Project: Growing

Hello everybody!

A couple of weeks ago we started our Veggie Patch project and my class planted radish seeds. As I promised before, I am going to keep you updated with the growing process of our radishes.

First of all, you should know that radishes are tubers and that means that they will grow under the ground. We have different kinds of tubers and maybe potatoes are the most known. I was explaining this to my children because they were expecting to see something more than only leaves when we went to see our Veggie Patch.


This is the way our radishes look now and we will continue taking care of them in the coming days.
More water and sunlight, more love and care, and more patience to see the results of this magic adventure of learning about radishes and about a farmer's work. See you!!

Veggie Patch Project: Planting

Hello everybody!!

I am really glad to tell you about the Veggie Patch Project and all what it involves. First of all I should say that in our school, all children from Nursery up to Lower 5th plant their veggies and become farmers for a while.



Yesterday our gardener, Mr. Gregorio, told my students how to prepare the ground to have it ready for planting seeds. My class knew how the radish seeds look like and they planted them with lots of enthusiasm.One by one my children were throwing the radish seeds hoping to watch them grow sooner.


In the coming days we will show you how we are taking care of our plants and how they are growing. We invite you to follow us in this new adventure and please do not stay away from the process because we promise that it will be great!!
